Department of History

History Department was established in the year of the inception of the college as the first and foremost higher education centre in this rural area of the erstwhile Thanjavur District. Started with the assignment of teaching History at the Pre-University course in the year 1972, it was gradually up-graded to B.A Degree in 1975, M.A., Degree in 1982 and M.Phil., (Both Full-Time & Part-Time) in 1985 and Ph.D., in 1992. Eminent Scholars and Professors had served in this department and brought laurels at State and National level. 5 National, 02 State level, 01 International Seminar were organized by the department. Apart from these, 02 Numismatics Exhibitions have been conducted to the Public and School Children. 01 UGC sponsored Minor Project was also successfully completed. The Department maintains a Museum to motivate the students and scholars to conserve, do research on the tangible heritage of humanity and environment. The department is also contributing excellently in Archaeological Studies in and around Nagapattinam District. There were many scholars awarded with M.Phil., and six scholars with Ph.D. Eight scholars are currently pursuing their research for their Ph.D., in the Department. Our Alumni are shining and widely acclaimed at various levels all over the world.
