Department of Botany

Botanists and zoologists often work together to gather a more complete picture of the natural world. Plants have intrigued people for thousands of years. They provide an aesthetic beauty as well as materials for our basic needs. In this new and inspiring era, Botany has gained enormous heights glorified with its immense contributions in the fields of Plant Medicine, Genetic Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Textiles, Forest etc., and provides the fundamental knowledge and tools needed to address many of society’s needs and to explore the unknown areas.

Following the footprints of Theophrastus, a Greek philosopher who was hailed as the “Father of botanical science” and other great botanists, the college came forward to fulfill the needs of the society by establishing the Pre-University Natural Science group in 1973. To meet our stakeholders’ requirement and to develop dynamic programme, the college promoted the department to undergraduate level in 1980. The department has a well-equipped modern laboratory instruments to evaluate our performance against National and International benchmarks respectively at UG level.

Over the last five decades, the department has built up its reputation as one among the best in its field imparting education to the rural and first-generation learners to come out with flying colours in the respective field.
